Some patients on TRT can experience high estrogen (above 200 pmol/L). This is due to excess aromatisation - where an excess amount of testosterone is converted into estrogen.
Common causes of high estrogen:
To treat elevated estrogen, it is best to treat the root cause (listed above). However our doctors also typically prescribe a low dose of anastrozole, an aromatase inhibitor that helps reduce the conversion of testosterone to estrogen. A common dosage is 0.5 mg per week, which is usually effective in keeping estrogen levels within a normal range (below 200 pmol/L).
